▸ The traditional Bedouin ride

Lahbab desert ride.

The Lahbab desert camel ride is the closest thing to a traditional Bedouin desert experience available within an hour of Dubai. Sand here is fine, deep, warm orange-red — the same dunes where the dune buggies, quad bikes, and desert safari Land Cruisers run. Camels move at a steady 4-5 km/h walking pace, handlers walk alongside, and the route covers a 20-minute loop through the camp's adjacent dune section.

The handler is usually a senior Bedouin team member who knows each camel by name and temperament. Two-hump or single-hump (we run dromedaries — single hump), tame breeding stock, hand-fed daily, and rotated through riding duty so no individual camel works back-to-back sessions. They're patient, slow-moving animals with a gentle stride.

Best timing: morning (06:30-09:00) for the soft golden light and cooler temperatures. Sunset (16:30-17:30 winter, 18:30-19:00 summer) for the silhouette photo on a high crest. Mid-day rides operational but the heat reflects off the sand and the photos lose their golden tone. Photographers default to morning or sunset.

▸ What's included

All-in AED 150.

  • 20-25 minute camel ride
  • Bedouin-style hand-crafted saddle
  • Experienced handler walks alongside
  • Group photo opportunity at peak photo crest
  • Cold water at the camp
  • Quick walk-through of camel handling basics
  • Free use of nearby photo backdrop areas

Not included: hotel pickup (book a desert safari for AED 240 to bundle pickup + camel ride + sandboarding + dune bashing). Drone use (not permitted on the camel route).

▸ Combine for value

Pair with desert safari.

Standalone camel ride at AED 150 is the cheapest option but it doesn't include hotel pickup. For pickup-included camel experiences, book a desert safari at AED 240 (Evening + BBQ) — the camel ride is bundled into the package along with sandboarding, dune bashing, BBQ buffet, and live shows. Total cost-per-experience is lower if you want more than just the camel.

If you specifically want only the camel ride and don't need pickup or other camp activities, AED 150 standalone is the right choice. Self-drive to the camp; the camel ride takes around 30-45 minutes total at the camp.

Group of 6+ — message us on WhatsApp for a quote. Group rates kick in at 8+ pax with a small per-person discount. Schools and corporate groups handled with notice; we coordinate timing to keep your group together.

▸ Desert ride — booking notes

Lahbab pickup, ride mechanics.

Desert camel rides at Lahbab run as part of the standard half-day or evening safari programmes. If you've booked the safari, the camel slot is built into the camp visit at no separate charge — typically a 5-7 minute walk-up ride during the 30-60 minute camp window. Standalone Lahbab camel ride bookings (without a safari) are also available as a 20-25 minute Bedouin-style track with handler escort.

Pickup logistics: free Dubai hotel pickup if booked alongside a safari (the safari pickup covers it). Standalone camel-only bookings include hotel pickup as part of the AED 150 per-person rate. Pickup window 14:30-15:30 for evening visits, 06:30-07:30 for morning. ~45-minute drive to Lahbab.

Ride mechanics: tame Arabian dromedary camels with experienced handlers. Camel kneels for mounting (the up-and-down motion is the most common surprise for first-timers). Handler holds the lead rope and walks alongside the camel for the entire route — riders don't need any prior experience. Maximum 2 riders per camel for shared mount; single rider option also available.

What to wear: closed-toe shoes (sandals slip on the camel saddle). Light long-sleeve top for sun protection. Hat or scarf. Avoid loose dangling jewellery — camel handlers walk close to the camel and loose items snag on tack. Camera with neck-strap; phone with wrist-strap. Both hands free is helpful for first-time mounts.
