▸ Best season picks

When you should ride.

Oct – Apr

Both slots work. Evening sunset is golden. Morning sunrise is the photographer's pick.

May – Sep

Morning safari only — heat at pickup makes evening less comfortable. Combo + ATV on morning slot is the summer bestseller.

▸ Heat + light hour-by-hour

When the desert looks best.

Morning light window. Sunrise at Lahbab in October-March falls between 06:30 and 06:45. From sunrise until 09:00, light hits the dunes at a low angle — long shadows, golden tone, soft contrast. After 09:00 the angle steepens; by 11:00 light becomes harsh and shadows shrink. Morning safari pickups at 06:30-07:30 catch the soft window cleanly. Photographers who specifically want the golden-hour shot book the morning slot.

Evening light window. Sunset in October-March is around 17:30-18:00; in May-September it shifts to 19:00-19:15. The hour before sunset is the strongest visual hour at Lahbab — orange sand turning deep red, the iconic photo crests catching direct light, long shadows hiding tyre marks from earlier groups. Evening safari pickups at 15:00-16:00 deliver the convoy to the dunes around 17:00, which is right inside the golden window.

Heat tolerance. May to September Lahbab afternoons run 40-44°C ambient with sand surface temperature 60-70°C. Evening pickup at 15:00 lands you on the dunes at 17:00 — still hot but cooling. Morning pickups at 06:30 catch sand temperatures in the comfortable 30-35°C range. For summer visitors, morning is the only sensible slot — evening sunsets are still beautiful but the camp dinner under cover loses its outdoor magic when 35°C lingers past midnight.

October-April crowd patterns. Evening sunset slots fill 1-2 days ahead on weekends and 2-3 days on holidays. Morning slots have more same-day availability. If you have flexibility, morning bookings are easier; if you specifically want the evening BBQ + show experience, book ahead.

▸ Programme depth

What you get + skip.

Morning safari includes: 4x4 dune bashing on Lahbab inner ridges, camel ride at the camp, sandboarding session on a soft dune face, photo stops on demand, soft drinks and water at the camp, hotel pickup and drop-off on the 1-hour-or-longer programme. Total time on programme is around 4 hours door-to-door.

Morning safari skips: BBQ buffet, belly dance show, tanoura whirler, fire show, henna painting, Arabic dress photo opportunity, late-night camp atmosphere. The morning camp is operational but stripped-down — the goal is dune time, not camp time.

Evening safari includes everything morning includes plus: BBQ buffet (vegetarian + non-vegetarian, unlimited), belly dance, tanoura whirler, fire show, henna painting (often included in standard package), Arabic dress photo opportunity, full camp seating area open until 21:00. Total time door-to-door is around 6 hours.

Evening safari skips: early-morning calm. The camp is busier in the evening — multiple safari groups arrive simultaneously around 18:00-19:00, the show stage runs a continuous programme, and the BBQ buffet has queues at peak times (19:30-20:00). If silence and solo dune time matter to you, morning beats evening every time.

▸ Booking & pickup

Practical scheduling.

Pickup window mechanics. Morning pickups happen across a 60-minute window (06:30-07:30) because the 4x4 fleet collects multiple hotel addresses on a route. Your specific pickup time depends on where your hotel sits on the route. Confirmed on WhatsApp the evening before. Evening pickups follow the same logic across 15:00-16:00.

Drop-off timing. Morning safari drops you back at your hotel by 11:30-12:00 — leaves the rest of your day open for Marina lunch, mall visits, or pool downtime. Evening safari drops back by 21:30 on the standard programme — late dinner is already done at the camp; most guests sleep on arrival.

Children's schedule fit. Morning slot suits families with kids 0-6 — pickup is right after sunrise nap window, drop-off lets kids nap in the afternoon. Evening slot suits families with kids 7-12 — late dinner at the camp is part of the experience, not a problem. Toddlers on evening slots often crash mid-show; the camp has quiet zones for tired kids.

Combined morning + evening. Some families book one of each across two days — morning safari Day 1 for the cool dune time, evening safari Day 2 for the BBQ + camp atmosphere. Different angle, different memory, no duplication. Booking both gets a small loyalty discount if you mention at the second booking.
