Al Marjan
Island.
Al Marjan Island is RAK's 4.5 km man-made beach island. White-sand stretches, calm Arabian Gulf water, multiple beach resorts with day-pass options, watersports. Coastal contrast to RAK's mountain and desert experiences.
Al Marjan Island Tours — scale.
Al Marjan Island offsets RAK's mountain-desert geography with the coastal experience. A 4.5 km man-made island built off RAK's coast, Al Marjan hosts multiple international beach resorts (Rixos, Mövenpick, Hilton, Doubletree, and the under-construction Wynn integrated resort opening 2027). White-sand beach, calm Arabian Gulf water, watersports, beach restaurants. Day-pass access to most resort beaches available.
Al Marjan is the relaxed contrast to RAK's adventure landscapes. Suits travellers wanting a beach interlude in a multi-day RAK programme. Day-pass costs are independent of our tour quote — confirmed at booking.
What makes it distinct.
4.5 km man-made beach
White-sand stretches with calm Gulf water. Less crowded than Dubai beaches, especially weekdays.
Resort day-pass options
Most Al Marjan resorts (Rixos, Mövenpick, Hilton, Doubletree) sell day-pass access — beach + pool + sometimes lunch. Pricing is set by each resort and shifts by season; we coordinate which property fits your group's preferences.
Watersports
Jet ski, banana boat, parasailing, donut ride available. Independent operators — we coordinate booking.
Mountain-desert-coast trinity
Pair with morning Wadi Shawka or afternoon RAK desert for the full mountain-canyon-coast or mountain-desert-coast UAE day.
Future Wynn opening
Wynn Al Marjan integrated resort opens 2027 — first integrated casino-resort in the Middle East. Will reshape the island; current quieter beach character changes when it opens.
How to visit.
Al Marjan beach day-trip
Dubai pickup → resort day-pass → beach + pool → resort lunch → return. ~10 hours total.
Al Marjan + RAK desert
Morning beach + afternoon dune buggy or quad on RAK desert. Beach-to-dunes contrast in one day.
Al Marjan + Wadi Shawka
Morning canyon hike + afternoon beach. Mountain-coast in one day.
Al Marjan watersports
Jet ski, parasailing, banana boat coordinated with beach time. Adrenaline + beach combo.
How we price.
RAK trips combine multiple landscapes — the inputs below shift cost most. Each quote is built around your specific combination, not a price list.
- Group size (1-4 vs 5-8 vs 9+)
- Pickup origin (Dubai vs RAK city vs other emirate)
- Tour duration (half-day vs full-day vs overnight)
- Activity mix (mountain / desert / coast)
- Season (peak Nov-Mar vs shoulder vs low Jun-Aug)
- Date type (weekday vs weekend vs UAE national holiday)
- Add-ons (zipline ticket, camp upgrade, photographer)
Where we collect.
- Dubai hotels (Downtown, Marina, JBR, Palm, Business Bay)
- RAK hotels (Al Marjan Island, Mina Al Arab, Al Hamra)
- Dubai International Airport (DXB)
- Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT)
- Sharjah / Ajman / Fujairah hotel transfers (route-dependent)
Pickup is part of the quote — no separate transfer fee. RAK is closer than AD: ~1h15min from Dubai Marina to RAK desert, ~1h30min to Jebel Jais base or Wadi Shawka trailhead.
Geographic context.
RAK's geography is a function of the Hajar range. The mountains rise sharply from the coast and form the eastern wall of the UAE — geologically related to the same chain that defines Oman's interior. The Hajars push their way to 1,934 metres at Jebel Jais. The same uplift creates the cool-water springs that feed Wadi Shawka's pools. The same range forces the desert to compress into a smaller, mountain-bordered band before opening into the open RAK interior.
This compressed geography is what makes RAK day-trips feasible. In other emirates the landscapes spread out across hours of driving; in RAK they're stacked. From the Jebel Jais summit you can see, on a clear winter day, simultaneously: mountain ridges into Oman, RAK desert below, and the Arabian Gulf coastline at Al Marjan. One emirate, three landscapes, one panorama.
Cultural layer adds to the geographic interest. RAK's history pre-dates UAE federation — the Al Qasimi ruling family controlled a maritime trading network from RAK across the Gulf to East Africa for centuries. The Wadi Shawka pools were drinking water for Bedouin moving between coast and mountain pastures. Jebel Jais sat as the natural border with Oman; some of the oldest watchtowers in the UAE perch on its slopes. Modern tourism overlays this older geography lightly.
Practical-day implications: RAK suits the second-or-third Dubai trip more than the first. First-time UAE visitors usually spend their time on Dubai/Abu Dhabi tourism. Repeat UAE travellers — especially those returning during summer when coastal Dubai gets uncomfortable — discover RAK's varied landscape and often revisit specifically for the multi-landscape format.
