Abu Dhabi
Dune Buggy.
Self-drive 1000cc, 1500cc, and flagship Can-Am Maverick X3 buggies on Abu Dhabi dunes — Sweihan, Liwa lower crescent, Al Ain edge. Bigger lines, fewer machines on the dune, longer routes than standard Dubai sessions.
Dune Buggy on Abu Dhabi terrain.
Abu Dhabi dune buggy expeditions step beyond the Lahbab standard. Sweihan's tracks favour longer line-of-sight runs. Liwa's lower crescent edge introduces 100m+ dune faces. Al Ain blends rolling sand with Hajar mountain backdrop. Same machines as the Dubai sessions — same Polaris RZR 1000cc, same Polaris RZR Turbo, same Can-Am Maverick X3 and X3 RS Turbo RR — different terrain.
Half-day Abu Dhabi buggy sessions are popular as 'next-step' for guests who already did Lahbab. Full-day Liwa for serious dune drivers and photographers.
Where you ride.
Sweihan dunes
1.5-hour drive from Dubai. Mid-size dunes, long line-of-sight, popular for first-time AD buggy riders. Half-day session typical (4-5 hours including transfer).
Liwa lower crescent
3-hour drive from Dubai. Big-dune introduction without committing to the full Crescent. Day-trip format (12-14 hours total). Photographers love the late-afternoon light here.
Al Ain desert
1.5-hour drive from Dubai. Cooler. Mountain backdrop. Family-friendly pace. Half-day or full-day options.
Sweihan + camp combo
Buggy session + private BBQ camp same day. ~6 hours total in Abu Dhabi.

How we price.
Abu Dhabi expeditions vary across multiple inputs. Each quote we send is built around your specific combination — no standard price list, no hidden surcharges. The factors below shift the cost most:
- Group size (1-4 vs 5-8 vs 9+)
- Pickup origin (Dubai vs Abu Dhabi city vs Al Ain)
- Tour duration (half-day vs full-day vs overnight)
- Vehicle tier (standard 1000cc vs flagship Can-Am / Polaris)
- Add-ons (camel, sandboard, BBQ camp, photographer)
- Season (peak Nov-Mar vs shoulder vs low Jun-Aug)
- Date type (weekday vs weekend vs UAE national holiday)
Where we collect.
- Dubai hotels (Downtown, Marina, JBR, Palm, Business Bay)
- Abu Dhabi hotels (Corniche, Yas Island, Saadiyat, Reem)
- Dubai International Airport (DXB)
- Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH)
- Al Ain hotel transfers (route-dependent)
Pickup is part of every quote — there's no separate transfer fee. Drive time depends on route: Sweihan ~1h15min, Al Ain ~1h30min, Liwa ~3h, Empty Quarter edge ~3h30min from Dubai (each way).
Day structure.
Abu Dhabi expedition days run longer than Dubai dune-line sessions. Pickup window starts earlier (typically 06:00–08:00 for half-day, pre-dawn for sunrise sessions, 14:00–15:00 for evening). The transfer leg matters — bring water, a charger, and either book the hotel breakfast box or plan for a meal at the launch point.
On arrival the briefing covers the specific terrain you're riding. Abu Dhabi sand structure differs from Lahbab — ridges run differently, slip faces angle differently, and the recommended throttle/steering balance shifts. Lead-guides ride the front and brief the line on each new dune section. Sweep guide rides back. Group size 2-8 typical per convoy.
The ride itself runs 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the package. Photo stops happen on demand — guides are happy to pause for hero shots, drone deployment (when permitted), or simply for the silence of an open dune. Water and shade breaks are scheduled into longer sessions.
Drop-off returns to your pickup location. For Liwa and Empty Quarter day-trips, the return drive is a real factor in the day's energy budget — most guests doze for the first 90 minutes back. Overnight bookings change this entirely: you wake in the desert, do sunrise + breakfast + a morning session, and are back in Dubai by midday.
When to ride, what to expect.
All AD expeditions run under DTCM-licensed operations with certified guides, helmet supply on every buggy and quad session, roll cage on every buggy, and lead-guide convoys for group cohesion. Briefings cover the specific terrain — Sweihan technique differs from Liwa technique differs from Al Ain technique. Group pace adjusts to the slowest comfortable rider; nobody pushes you to ride beyond your level.
Season multiplier matters. Peak conditions run November to February — comfortable temperatures, low humidity, clearest air for photography. Shoulder months (March–May, September–October) deliver near-peak conditions with minor afternoon heat. Summer (June–August) operates with adjusted timings — early morning sessions (06:00–09:00) and late evening (18:00–21:00) only. Midday closes for heat safety. Liwa and Empty Quarter overnight bookings reschedule around dust-storm forecasts in transitional months.
What to bring: passport ID (UAE residents may use Emirates ID), closed-toe footwear for buggy/quad sessions, sunglasses (mandatory for self-drive — sand at speed gets in eyes), sun-protection layer, refillable water bottle (1.5L+ recommended for half-day, more for longer trips), and a small bag for personal items at the camp.
